Things that are Important to Know…

    Travel Suggestions

Machu Picchu: The Lost City of the Incas

Machu Picchu, often called the "Lost City of the Incas," is one of the world’s greatest archaeological wonders. Built in the mid-15th century, it was abandoned during the Spanish conquest and remained hidden until American explorer Hiram Bingham rediscovered it in 1911. Historians believe Machu Picchu served as a royal estate...

The Incan Road System: Engineering Marvel of the Andes

The Qhapaq Ñan, or Great Incan Road System, was an engineering masterpiece that connected the empire’s vast territory, stretching over 24,000 miles from modern-day Colombia to Chile. Built without iron tools or the wheel, it remains one of the greatest infrastructural achievements of the pre-Columbian world. These roads linked major cities...

    In Case You Were Wondering…

    Frequently asked questions

Peru’s top destinations include Machu Picchu, the Sacred Valley of the Incas, Cusco’s historic sites, Lima’s culinary scene, Huachachina Oasis and the Nazca Lines, Lake Titicaca’s floating islands, and the Amazon rainforest’s wildlife.

Peru’s high season (dry season) runs from May to October, offering clear weather ideal for outdoor activities, especially in the Andes, where Cusco and Machu Picchu are located. The rainy season, from November to April, brings fewer tourists and lower costs but can make trekking challenging.

Many wonder if hiking the Inca Trail is essential or if they can take a train. Both options are available, with train rides providing scenic views and various hike options suited for different fitness levels. Due to limited permits for the Inca Trail, advanced booking is strongly advised. Luxury train rides, private guided tours, and early-morning or sunset visits provide exclusivity and comfort.

Travelers usually need 10-14 days to explore all of Peru’s highlights adequately, especially if planning to visit both Machu Picchu and the Amazon. Nonetheless, a week will suffice to visit Lima, Cusco, and Machu Picchu.

Greet with “hola” (hello) or “buen día” (good day), dress modestly for religious sites, and respect local traditions to foster meaningful connections. Tipping is not mandatory, but encouraged at 10% in restaurants. People are very affectionate, therefore expect people to express their love through proximity and physical contact.

Prevent altitude sickness by acclimatizing gradually, especially by resting the first day, drinking coca tea and coffee or chewing coca leaves, staying hydrated, and avoiding overexertion. Altitude sickness medicine is effective, if considered and recommended by your physician.

Tap water is generally unsafe for travelers, therefore we recommend that you stick to bottled or filtered water. Some hotels offer filtered water to help reduce plastic waste. We have available pure mineral bottled water in all of our experiences.

Due to Peru’s varied climate, packing layers is essential. We advise you to bring items like comfortable hiking shoes, sunscreen, sunglasses, hats, a rain jacket, and warm clothing for cold nights, especially at higher altitudes. Our travel experts will be precise on what to bring according to your travel dates.
